1) Use Shade cloth Binding (this is like bias binding used in dressmaking). Cut a length of Shade cloth Binding, fold in half lengthways and insert Shade cloth. Sew along the length, ensuring Shade cloth is tensioned reasonably taut.

2) Use Shade Cloth Tape (this is like double-sided sticky tape but much stronger). Simply apply Shade cloth Tape to the leading edge of Shade cloth and attach it to the structure.

3) Use cable ties. Loop cable tie through Shade cloth and around structure, pull tight, and cut off the excess.

 

Can rain get through shade cloth?

the answer depends on the type of Shade Cloth you have. If it is Woven HDPE Shade Cloth, then no, the rain will not be able to penetrate the Shade Cloth. If it is Polypropylene Shade Cloth or Knitted Shade Cloth, then yes, rain can pass through the Shade Cloth. In all cases, an overhang of Shade Cloth will provide protection from the rain.

For example, if you are using a 3m wide Shade Cloth, the posts will need to be 3m apart. If you are using a 6m wide Shade Cloth, the posts will need to be 6m apart. The length of the Shade Cloth will also affect the post spacing. generally, the posts should be spaced 1.5m to 2.0m apart.

 

Can I use 4×4 posts for shade sail?
